Wishes spoken, desires known

I just got back from a mini-blogger convention... e, Nemo, and oh yeah, SZB. Did I mention that this little convention was in fact SZB's lchaim? Nice, eh?

That's a lot of bloggers for one day.

http://collive.com/show_news.rtx?id=5855 ... spot the bloggers.

Nemo said...

Not to mention R' Yisrael Shemtov, an honorary blogger.

Nice. Now I know who SZB is. And I know his sister, oh well. I saw TRS and nemo, but no E, unless he's camera shy.

e hates the paparazzi.

I've seen that post. I know that, but still, how did trs and nemo get captured together, but not you, even though you were supposedly there?

e said...

maybe that pic was taken before I came?

Altie said...

Maybe, E, maybe.

Can Nemo even be considered a blogger anymore?

nemo said...

Low blow, C.

C said...

Hey, I'm speaking as a disappointed fan. I used to read your blog religiously.

Nemo said...

Those were the days, huh?

C said...

There were some real quality bloggers back then.

sarabonne said...

Any chance of a come-back?

Nemo said...

Unlikely, at least for now. Having a blog - with only a few exceptions - makes it harder to get married ;)

Yossi said...

nemo, can you elaborate?
I personally know a guy with a great blog, but if it would dampen his shidduch chances, perhaps he would need to make some changes...

Altie said...

Haha yossi, I wonder who that is.

And nemo, I fervently disagree.

Yossi said...

I think it would have to depend on what exactly was the toichen of your posts.
For example, if I was looking into somebody as a shidduch, and I saw on her blog a post about how she held up a store at gunpoint... I could go on, and there could be some pretty funny examples that I could continue with, but you get what I mean

Altie said...

I get it. But who would write abour a crime they did?

Yes many blogs can be shtusy or silly, but the ones that have a purpose, and express good topics and ideas, I think it can only reflect positively on the person who writes it. (I know someone personally who has a great blog, and many devoted followers.)

Nemo said...

Yossi, no personal advice without paying my fee.

Yossi said...

which is?
is it monetary?

Nemo said...

Never mind. Anyways, I just had a conversation with an old blogger, back from the days that C adores so much, and it inspired an interesting topic for a Nemosramblings post: "Are We the Same Person Who We Once Were? A Contrast in the Life of Nemo."

Is it a vain undertaking? Perhaps. Is that sort of personal exposure what blogging is/was all about? Yes. Will I ever get around to doing it? To be determined ...

Cheerio said...

where are the pictures?!!!
and nemo's blog....
and speaking of the old days, remember when szb commented on trs?

The Real Shliach said...

Cheerio: Yup, back in the day when SZB was seriously commenting on TRS (and even guest posting http://therealshliach.blogspot.com/2008/12/guest-thoughts.html ) you were the only girl on TRS (this post was written after he had stopped commenting seriously). Wild times, eh?

C said...

Nemo-I would love to see that when it's up. Also, is that why CS stopped? I miss him, he was funny!

Cheerio-When I talk about the old days, I'm talking about before TRS even started this blog.

re marriage-I actually dated a guy who read my blog before we went out, and decided we were a perfect match. That creeped me out, but I don't think it negatively affected my prospects. I may be wrong.

Nemo said...

Some people fall for bloggers, others think they're fools. In any event, I don't blog because I don't have time; I'm on Facebook; I don't have patience to write things up anymore. You want the old Nemo? Whatever is left of him is on Facebook in the form of long arguments/discussions on people's notes and comments.

Yossi said...

nemo, you had said that having a blog, with some exceptions, makes it harder to get married. you implied this was your case.
it made me wonder, because I recalled you saying (And i finally found the link in your archives!!Am I good, or what? http://nemosramblings.blogspot.com/2005/09/older-women.html ) where you said that all the girls were after you, and all the older women in crown heights wanted you to marry their daughters...
lol. the past can haunt us, and so can our past posts...

and speaking of past posts, altie, I remember you telling trs not long ago (and this link didn't take as long to find, although it did stretch my Blogging Bikieus-http://therealshliach.blogspot.com/2009/09/pray-for-what.html ) where you say: "No, thats not how its gonna happen. I dont plan on marrying a guy that I meet online."
But now you say how wonderful blogs are and how they reflect positively on the blogger, and how you "Fervently disagree" with nemo's opinion that it makes it harder to get married.

I just wanted to point out the inconsistencies here, for the benefit of the public blogging audience, and to demand some explanations.

Altie said...

Yossi, Yossi, Yossi. (Shakes head.) The fact that I'm even bothering to answer this... tsk tsk.

I did say that. Good job at finding the link. And I still hold by that, that I don't plan on marrying someone I meet online. (Of course, man plans, and G-d laughs.)

And I still think that blogs are a good thing, that they CAN reflect positively on the blogger, in some cases, and that it does NOT inhibit your chances of finding a great shidduch.

This is not to say that I WILL marry a guy just because he has a great blog. I meant that a guy will still marry me DESPITE having a blog, and perhaps BECAUSE of it. (Though I hope not because of it, cuz like C pointed out, that's creepy.)

I don't see how the 2 contradict. If you see a possible conflict, let me know so I can further explain. Otherwise, I must get back to more important things. Tata!

Nemo said...

Wow, I am so heartened by the outpouring of love here from all the old fans.

Yossi, your bekius is impressive and I hate to lash out at you after you've made me feel all warm and fuzzy, but the post you linked to inconsistent with the position you are trying to impute to me on blogging vis-a-vis marriage:

It was my second blog post ever and therefore it would have been impossible for me to know then how blogging would affect shidduch prospects. Moreover - and more fundamentally - the post itself had absolutely nothing to do with blogging. I never suggested that the attention I was getting from women had anything to do with blogging.

Nemo said...

See my blog.

Yossi said...

okay, point taken.
and is your new post a sign of a permanent return?

Nemo said...

No.

Dear Mr. R.S.:
New hat style? Or are you just getting the "married man" look? Enquiring minds want to know. LdT.

Cheerio said...

wow! you guys look like you're having fun!

The Real Shliach said...

LdT: What's the difference?

Cheerio: We were.

yah just this pic revived my interest in your basement interconnections and blogging ways

The Real Shliach said...

Anon: Huh?

Nemo said...

I never had anything to do with "basement interconnections."

e said...

trs: If he were articulate, he wouldn't be anonymous.

Altie said...

E- aren't you the one who always called yourself editor? And E is pretty anonymous too.
