TRS: So I was thinking, Rabbi Schapiro, that-
The grand rabbi himself: Since when did you think?
TRS: I understand your surprise, but it has been known to occur on occasion.
His eternal swaminess: So what were you thinking?
TRS: What's the connection between Asarah B'Teves and Basar B'Challav?
The unknowable one: Good question. I would have to think about it.
TRS: Don't take too long on it?
The real smichamaster (TRS!): Why not?
TRS: Because if you don't get back to me today then I won't be able to publicize your words to the masses.
Child of Miami, ruler of MoTown: You say that as if it's a bad thing.
TRS: Is it?
Next stop-the world!: In general, I'm not paid to answer these kinds of questions.
TRS: But this is a machon l'horaah, no?
The universe!: Horaah for yoreh deah, not for deep questions like this.
And thus the discussion ended. For some reason we davened mincha at 12:30, and Rabbi Schapiro fled zal for the safety of somewhere, anywhere, else. So what's a guy to do? I could just make up something, but honestly, I don't know. My chavrusa suggested that the similarity lies in their both prohibiting the consumption of meat and milk together, but I thought little of this suggestion and proposed that he wasn't all there mentally due to his lack of sleep and victuals.
Tragic when you think about it.

1. Asarah B'Teves is called "Etzem Hayom Hazeh," as we said in today's Selichos.
2. Another verse that uses this same expression is when Avraham and Yishmael - father and son - were circumcised.
3. Another verse that associates father and son is the one prohibiting slaughtering "oso v'es bno" on the same day.
4. But really, the din of "oso v'es bno" applies to the _mother_ animal and the child.
5. Another verse that associates the mother and the child is the one prohibiting "cooking a kid in its mother's milk," which is the source for the halachos of basar bechalav.
Simple and obvious, no?
Pretty good. Can we get a biur now? Or a beer, I'm kind of thirsty.
TGRH / HES / TUO / TRS / COM,ROM / NS-TW! / TU! should be able to explain it better than I could. (Tell him I said hello; we were classmates at EIOT.)
Now I'm getting scared-you guys were classmates under the great Phil Parker?
Alex that was really good. Kol hakavod!
Alex: I asked the grand Rabbi if he remembered an Alex from OT, and he said, "Sure, of course, Alex Oppenheimer!" I then relayed the regards. Question remains, is this you?
Heppenheimer, actually. Yep, that's me.
Sorry, I must have misheard him. So how'd you stumble across this here humble little blog?
'Twasn't your mistake, probably; most people seem to think that it's Oppenheimer or some variant thereof. Why, if I had a nickel for every possible misspelling or mispronunciation, I'd probably be as rich as Oppenheimer!
I probably followed a link from HH, though I don't recall for sure - I've been reading you for several weeks now.
I wracked my brains for, oh, three whole minutes, and couldn't figure out what HH stood for. Oh well. Still, happy to have you along for the ride, you don't know what this does for my self-esteem :)
brilliant! hunger makes your humor spot on, apparently. you should make a collection of all R. C. Shapiro related posts, because they are some of your best work, in terms of humor and spiritual content.
also - the world is getting smaller....
Merely look to your left and behold! Labels! Oh frabjous day!
Yeah, hungry I was.
You know Mr. Heppenheimer?
no, but our blogging world is shrinking around us. i can no longer rely on a safe cloud of anonymity protecting me. and that's beginning to happen in real life, too. if this trend continues, i'm gonna have to leave the CH.
oh, and i was thinking more along the lines of an illustrated flip book, or something.
I eagerly await the day when someone stops me here in CH and says, "Hey wait, are you TRS?!" Of course, the people here pish on anyone who thinks he's something special, i.e. Avremel or Matisyahu, so fat chance of that happening.
I'll work on it.
one day, trs, one day... i mean, i'd do it if it made you feel better, but somehow....
For once I don't know what to say. I mean, I have about fifteen great lines flying through my mind, but I just don't think it's worth getting skilah for any of them.
try em all out. they're only virtual stones, after all. unless i do run into you in person. are you in CH now?
I is, I is.
where?
By me sis.
Hey, I got stopped at Bais Chana for my blog and youtube videos. I can only imagine what chaos would ensue if I went to CH...
We should get a video camera and record the fun.
That would be superbly wasome. For some reason I just get this image of a bunch of bloggers walking in a band down the streets of CH.
And so untznius too...how appropriate for CH.
Yeah, it wouldn't out of place.
Say what?
My point is, the place is so un-tzanua anyways...
So because everyone else is eating pork?
We should eat clams. Exactly.
Are clams tasty?
I don't know. I didn't live it up before I started keeping kosher. No pork, no shellfish... I was a slacker.
Ach, shvache maasos.
What kind of BT are you if you never sinned anyway?
I sinned plenty.
Oh phew, I was beginning to wonder if you were lacking in BT cred.
Yeah I mean I'm sure I sinned.
Some doubt creeps in?
Ohmygoodness!!!! Did I not sin?? I'm losing my street cred!
Shocking. Quick, say some loshon hora or shave your beard or something!
Now I know I'm a BT. Only a BT would find that terribly inappropriate.
To shave your beard? What could be more natural?
I can't have this conversation. I feel nauseated.
Why, I've survived with a beard for six years or so without being nauseated.
Nevermind.
Nothing easier.
LE7, i don't know if i'm thinking what you're thinking, or something much worse...;)
I think we're on the same page Cheerio. Sad sad sad.
we need to have a joint bleaching of the minds.
Excuse me for being naive, but what was said that was so bad?
Don't inform yourself it's not worth it. We all like your naivete.
Maybe when I'm older, eh? Of course, I'm older than both of you...
Well, in years but not in uh, useless knowledge.
I guess not.
